401k’s were invented to offer a means to save money for retirement.  They allow this means through deferring money from one’s paycheck.  In exchange for offering this benefit, an employer must provide a secure plan with appropriate options, and education.  However,  education is not advice.  Employers can not offer advice, nor can most financial advisors.
